Dejan Lovren in talks over Roma switch after being left out of Super Cup squad

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is reportedly in talks over a move to AS Roma.

Lovren, 30, has not been included in the squad for the Super Cup match against Chelsea on Wednesday with Liverpool citing illness as the reason for his absence.

However, The Times correspondent Paul Joyce has said the Croatian international wants to leave after understanding he is Jurgen Klopp’s fourth choice defender.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all ahead of him and Lovren, who signed for Liverpool from Southampton in 2014, also failed to make the squad for Friday’s 4-1 win over Norwich.

Roma will be relying on their ‘strong relationship’ with Liverpool to help them get a deal for Lovren over the line.

In recent seasons, Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker have moved to Anfield and been huge hits on Merseyside.

The Premier League window may have shut, but the rest of Europe have until September 2 to complete deals.
